Police arrest logs are public by law. Under MGL c. 41, § 98F, every police department in the state must keep a daily log and make it available to the public. Weymouth's log shows names, dates, charges, and other basic details for each arrest. You can ask to review the log at the station or inquire whether it is posted online.

Formal public records requests are governed by MGL c. 66, § 10. Agencies must respond within 10 business days. The copy fee is $0.05 per page. Staff time to search records is free for the first two hours, then $25 per hour after that. Written requests can be submitted to the department by mail or in person.

Norfolk County Court Records

Weymouth criminal cases are filed in Quincy District Court or Norfolk County Superior Court. The Superior Court is located at 650 High Street, Dedham. District Court covers misdemeanors and lower-level felonies. Superior Court takes serious felonies and cases going to jury trial.

The Massachusetts Trial Court website lets you search case dockets at no charge. You can find case numbers, hearing dates, and charge information online. If you need certified copies, those must be ordered from the clerk's office at the applicable courthouse. There is a fee for certified documents.

Not every record is available. Cases involving minors are sealed under state law. Domestic violence records are closed to the public under MGL c. 41, § 97D. If a record has been sealed or expunged, it will not appear in a standard search or at the clerk's window.

CORI: Criminal Offender Record Information

The state CORI system tracks arrest and conviction history for anyone 18 or older. It is governed by MGL c. 6, § 167. CORI is not an open public database. Different users, such as individuals, employers, and government agencies, have different levels of access depending on their reason for requesting.

Anyone can get their own CORI for free. Use the iCORI system on mass.gov to sign up, verify your identity, and request your report. Results usually come back fast. You will see all arrests and charges tied to your name, along with how each case ended.

Under MGL c. 6, § 172, records age off CORI over time. Misdemeanor convictions fall off after five years. Felony convictions fall off after ten. Non-conviction records, meaning dismissed cases or not-guilty verdicts, are removed right away. Sealed records are excluded from standard CORI reports entirely. For more detail on access rules, see the state guide at mass.gov/cori.

For arrest records, always contact Weymouth Police directly. The sheriff operates the jail but does not maintain local police arrest logs.

Someone arrested in Weymouth may be held at the Norfolk County facility before arraignment or transferred there after court proceedings. If you are trying to find out whether a person is in custody, call the sheriff's office. They can confirm active holds.

People sentenced to state prison rather than county jail will be in the Department of Correction system. Search state prison inmates at mass.gov/doc. The DOC database and the county sheriff system are completely separate.

District Attorney: Norfolk County

The Norfolk County District Attorney's office handles prosecution for all criminal matters in Weymouth. The office is at 45 Shawmut Road, Canton, MA. Phone: (781) 830-4800. Website: norfolkda.com.

The DA's office does not provide individual arrest records to members of the public. Once a case goes to court, the file becomes a public court record. You can access those through the clerk's office at Norfolk County Superior Court or the district court. Press releases for notable cases are also posted on the DA's website.

Sex Offender Registry

The Massachusetts Sex Offender Registry Board runs a public search at mass.gov/sorb. You can look up registered sex offenders in Weymouth by name or zip code. Level 2 and Level 3 offenders are listed publicly. Level 1 offenders are not displayed to the general public.

The registry updates as people register, move, or are reclassified. Check the official SORB site for current information. Local police can also provide printed lists of registered offenders in Weymouth on request.

Sealing and Expungement

Massachusetts offers two ways to limit public access to a criminal record: sealing and expungement. Sealing keeps the record but removes it from standard background checks. Expungement destroys it entirely.

Under MGL c. 276, § 100A, you can petition to seal a misdemeanor conviction three years after the case closes. The wait for a felony conviction is seven years. The time starts from conviction or release from custody, whichever is later. A petition must be filed with the court, and a judge reviews it.

Non-conviction records are handled differently. Under MGL c. 276, § 100C, cases that ended in dismissal or acquittal are automatically removed from public CORI results. You do not need to file a petition for those. They should not appear on standard checks.

Expungement is a stronger remedy, available under MGL c. 276, §§ 100E-100U. It wipes the record from all systems rather than just sealing it. Eligibility is narrow. Violent offenses, sex crimes, and other serious categories generally do not qualify. A judge must approve every request. Legal aid or a private attorney can help you decide whether to apply.

Note: An arrest record shows that a charge was filed. It does not mean the person was convicted. Everyone is presumed innocent until a court finds otherwise.
