Quincy Police Department Records

The Quincy Police Department is at 1 Sea Street, Quincy, MA 02169. Call (617) 479-1212 for the main line. The Records Division handles public record requests. You can also visit the department's website at quincyma.gov/departments/police for forms and contact details.

State law requires all police departments to maintain public daily logs. MGL c. 41, § 98F makes those logs open to the public. Quincy Police logs include arrest dates, charges, and general call information. Logs are typically available at the station or by request through the Records Division.

To request a specific record, call (617) 479-1212 and ask for the Records Division. Some requests can be handled by phone, but others require an in-person visit or a written request by mail. Once you submit a formal public records request, the department has 10 business days to respond. Under MGL c. 66, § 10, copies cost $0.05 per page. Staff time is free for the first two hours, then $25 per hour for extensive requests.

Norfolk County Court Records

Criminal cases from Quincy go to Quincy District Court for misdemeanors and lower-level charges. More serious felonies move to Norfolk County Superior Court, which is at 650 High Street, Dedham, MA. The phone for Superior Court is (781) 326-1600.

Court records are searchable through the Massachusetts Trial Court website. The public docket search is free and shows case numbers, parties, charges, and case status. Certified copies of documents cost a fee and must be ordered from the clerk at the courthouse where the case was filed.

Some records are blocked from public access. Juvenile cases are sealed under state law. Domestic violence cases are restricted under MGL c. 41, § 97D. Any case that has been sealed or expunged will not appear in a standard public search.

CORI Reports

Massachusetts uses a statewide criminal history system called CORI. MGL c. 6, § 167 covers who the system applies to and what it includes. CORI tracks arrests, charges, and case outcomes for everyone 18 and older. The system is not fully open to the general public. Access depends on the relationship between the requestor and the subject of the record.

You can get your own CORI at no cost. Visit the iCORI portal, create an account, and submit a request. Results come back quickly and include your full criminal history in Massachusetts, including Quincy cases.

Records age off CORI over time under MGL c. 6, § 172. Misdemeanor convictions drop off after five years. Felony convictions drop off after ten years. Non-conviction records, which include dismissals and acquittals, come off right away. The full CORI guide from the state is at mass.gov.

Norfolk County Sheriff's Office

The Norfolk County Sheriff is at 200 Village Grange, Dedham, MA 02026. Phone: (781) 329-3700. Website: norfolksheriff.com. The sheriff runs the county jail, which holds people who are detained after arraignment and waiting for trial.

An important point: the sheriff does not create or hold arrest records from local police. If you need to find out if someone has been arrested in Quincy, contact the Quincy Police Department directly. The sheriff's office can confirm whether someone is currently in the county facility. For people held in state prison, use the Department of Correction database at mass.gov/doc.

District Attorney: Norfolk County

District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey handles prosecution for all Norfolk County cases, including those from Quincy. The DA's office is at 45 Shawmut Road, Canton, MA 02021. Phone: (781) 830-4800. Website: norfolkda.com.

The DA does not hand out individual arrest records. Once a case reaches court, those records become part of the public file. The Quincy District Court clerk or the Superior Court clerk can provide access to court documents. For high-profile cases, the DA's office may post press releases on their website.

Sex Offender Registry

The Massachusetts Sex Offender Registry Board keeps a public list of Level 2 and Level 3 sex offenders. Search by name, city, or zip code at mass.gov/sorb. Quincy has a notable registered sex offender population given its size. Level 1 offenders are not in the public database. Contact local police if you have questions about a specific person's registration status.

Sealing and Expungement

Two main options exist for limiting who can see your Quincy arrest record: sealing and expungement. They are not the same thing, and the rules differ for each.

Sealing keeps a record from appearing on most CORI checks. Under MGL c. 276, § 100A, you can petition to seal a misdemeanor conviction after three years and a felony conviction after seven. Both wait times run from the date of conviction or release, whichever is later. You file the petition at Quincy District Court or Norfolk Superior Court, depending on where the case was heard.

Cases that ended without conviction seal differently. Under MGL c. 276, § 100C, non-conviction records, such as dismissed cases and acquittals, are supposed to seal automatically and not show on standard CORI checks. If yours has not sealed, you may need to follow up with the court.

Expungement under MGL c. 276, §§ 100E-100U is a more complete removal. The record is destroyed, not just sealed. Eligibility is narrow. Cases involving violence, weapons, or sex offenses are generally excluded. A judge must approve the petition. Not all courts grant these routinely.

Additional Resources

Note: An arrest is not a conviction. Records show that charges were filed, not that the person is guilty. All individuals are presumed innocent unless and until convicted by a court.

Massachusetts State Police sometimes assist with cases in Quincy and can be involved in investigations alongside the local department. State Police public records are available at mass.gov/state-police-public-records. These are separate from Quincy Police records.
