Everett Overview
Everett Police Department Records
The Everett Police Department handles all local law enforcement within the city. The station is at 45 Elm Street, Everett, MA 02149. Reach the records unit at (617) 389-2120. The department website is at everettma.gov/departments/police.
Police arrest logs are open to the public under state law. MGL c. 41, § 98F requires all police departments to maintain a daily log that is available for public inspection. That log includes arrest dates, charges, and basic identifying details for each person taken into custody. Call the Everett records unit to ask about log access, or check whether logs are posted on the department website.
Formal requests for records fall under MGL c. 66, § 10. Agencies must respond within 10 business days. Copies are $0.05 per page. The first two hours of staff search time are free; the rate is $25 per hour after that. Written requests can be submitted by mail or in person at the station.
Middlesex County Court Records
Everett criminal cases are filed in Malden District Court or Middlesex County Superior Court. The Superior Court is at 200 Trade Center, Woburn. Malden District Court handles misdemeanors and lower-level charges. Superior Court takes serious felonies and cases going to jury trial.
The Massachusetts Trial Court website lets you look up case dockets at no charge. You can find case numbers, charges, and scheduled hearing dates. Certified copies of court documents require a visit to the clerk's office and payment of a copy fee. Some records are not available online and must be requested in person.
Not all records are open. Juvenile cases are sealed by state law. Domestic violence records are closed to the public under MGL c. 41, § 97D. If a record has been sealed or expunged, it will not appear in any public search, whether online or at the courthouse window.
For additional Middlesex County case information, the Middlesex County records portal is a useful starting point. Confirm any results against official sources before acting on them.
CORI: Criminal Offender Record Information
The Massachusetts CORI system tracks arrest and conviction history for anyone 18 or older who has been charged in the state. The statute behind it is MGL c. 6, § 167. CORI is not a fully public database. Access depends on who is asking and what they need it for.
Anyone can request their own CORI for free. Go to the iCORI system at mass.gov, create an account, and verify your identity. The report will show every arrest, charge, and case outcome tied to your name. Most results come back quickly after you submit.
Some records age off CORI over time, under MGL c. 6, § 172. Misdemeanor convictions drop off after five years. Felony convictions drop off after ten. Non-conviction records, including dismissed charges and not-guilty verdicts, are removed right away. Sealed records are excluded from standard CORI results entirely. For the full set of rules, see the state guide at mass.gov/cori.
Middlesex County Sheriff's Office
The Middlesex County Sheriff's Office is at 12 Gill Street, Suite 4700, Woburn, MA. Phone: (781) 960-2800. Website: middlesexsheriff.org. People arrested in Everett may be held at the county facility before or after their court appearance.
Call the sheriff's office to find out whether a specific person is in custody at the Middlesex facility. The sheriff does not maintain Everett Police arrest logs. Those come from the police department directly.
For anyone held in state prison, use the Department of Correction inmate lookup at mass.gov/doc. State prison and county jail are entirely separate systems. A person at the Middlesex County facility will not appear in DOC search results.
District Attorney: Middlesex County
The Middlesex County District Attorney handles all criminal prosecutions for cases arising in Everett. The office is at 15 Commonwealth Avenue, Woburn, MA. Phone: (781) 897-8300. Website: middlesexda.com.
The DA's office does not share individual arrest records with the public. Once a case goes to court, the file becomes a public court record, accessible through the clerk's office. Press releases for notable cases are posted on the DA's website and can provide background on significant arrests in the area.
Sex Offender Registry
The Massachusetts Sex Offender Registry Board maintains a public database at mass.gov/sorb. Search by name or zip code to find registered offenders in Everett. Level 2 and Level 3 offenders appear in the public listing. Level 1 offenders are not shown to the general public.
The registry updates as people register, move, or are reclassified. Always check the SORB site for current data rather than relying on third-party sources. Everett Police can also supply a printed list of registered offenders in the city on request.
Sealing and Expungement
Massachusetts offers two ways to limit public access to a criminal record: sealing and expungement. Each has its own rules and outcomes. The right choice depends on your specific record and goals.
Sealing is governed by MGL c. 276, § 100A. You can petition the court to seal a misdemeanor conviction three years after the case ends. For a felony conviction, the wait is seven years. The time runs from conviction or release from custody, whichever is later. A sealed record is removed from standard CORI checks but still exists within the court system and is accessible to judges and certain agencies.
Non-conviction records are treated differently under MGL c. 276, § 100C. Charges that ended in dismissal or acquittal are removed from public CORI results automatically. No petition is required. They should not show up on a routine background check.
Expungement, available under MGL c. 276, §§ 100E-100U, destroys the record entirely rather than sealing it. Eligibility is narrow. Cases involving violence, sex offenses, or other serious factors generally do not qualify. A judge must approve every expungement petition. A legal aid organization or private attorney serving Middlesex County can advise you on whether your record qualifies and help you file.
